Among all things I am certainly a busy woman. This semester I took 18 hours while also handling two jobs, in addition to my extra curricular activities. I am saying this to justify why I have not posted anything. Since my last post I have searched for different bakeries and donuts to review. I am currently working on finding more coffee places. If you know of quality coffee places, please comment the name and location and I will try to review and critique them. Once donut place that I tend to frequent, and by frequent I mean I'm there at least six times a week is the original Dunkin' Donuts franchise. I firmly believe that Dunkin' Donuts has the best iced coffee in all of America (and I have not yet been proven wrong). So I decided to grab a maple frosted donut.
I think that the maple frosted donut is by far one of the best donuts offered at Dunkin' Donuts.
The categories the donuts are reviewed on are: icing to dough ratio, fluffiness or softness of the donut, overall taste and donut variety.
The icing to dough ratio of this donut like most of the donuts at Dunkin was extremely unreliable. I often find myself with a reasonable size chunk of dough without icing by the end of my donut consumption. This is because the donuts are frosted on the very top, almost like a cupcake. The difference between the dough to icing ratio in a cupcake and a donut is the depth. So imagine a cupcake with icing only on the surface of the donut not swirled around. Due to this I'm giving the icing to dough ratio a four out of ten.
As far as fluffiness or softness of the maple frosted donut goes, it is exceptional. I have not had a donut that is softer than the donuts from Dunkin'. But they often end up being a little chewy. Imagine a slightly overcooked pasta with maple frosting on top of it, that's kind of what the donut feels like. So I will be giving the softness a 8/10.
The overall taste of the donut is a difficult category to examine. But in all my years living on earth, it is suffice to say that eating a maple frosted donut is in a way like being on a diet. It's inevitably a let down. Don't get me wrong the donut was tasty, but it did not make me buy another dozen. The overall taste of the maple frosted donut from Dunkin' is a six out of 10
The variety of donut at Dunkin' is great but,I think the lack of new donuts affects how America as a whole views them. too often they display a new donut for the season and keep the donut for as long as they can. This is partially because of the Dunkin Donut policy. For example in fall, they return the pumpkin donut, as well as pumpkin munchkins and pumpkin flavored coffee. But instead of getting rid of the pumpkin donut in december and bring a new donut in, they keep the pumpkin donut until January 1st.
In conclusion, the maple frosted donut at Dunkin' donuts is a great donut despite its uneven distribution of icing, and naturally chewy nature. The overall taste is a 6 out 10, due to the aforementioned reasons. And though DD lacks continuous creativity, they know to keep the best donuts a constant success. I guess that's why America runs on Dunkin'.
